  : Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

Raise and support the vehicle.

. Remove the wheel and tire.

. Remove the wheel knuckle.

. Remove the adjuster and return spring.



. Remove the primary brake shoe.
  Remove the hold-down spring and retaining pin.
  Pivot the shoe to release it from the spreader plate and return spring.




. Remove the spreader plate and spring.

. Remove the return spring.



. Remove the secondary brake shoe.
  Remove the hold-down spring and retaining pin.
  Disconnect the parking brake cable retaining spring from the brake shoe lever.




. Using the special tools, remove the drive flange.



. Remove the brake disc dust shield.
  Remove the 3 screws.




. Using the special tools, remove the wheel bearing.
  Remove the circlip.




. Clean the components.

. Using the special tools, install the wheel bearing.

  : Make sure that the bearing seal is not damaged when installing the circlip.

Install the circlip.



. Install the brake disc dust shield.
  Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm (7 lb.ft).

  : Do not use compressed air to clean brake components. Dust from friction materials can be harmful if inhaled.

Clean the backing plate and apply grease to the brake shoe contacts.

. Clean the adjuster and set it to its minimum extension.

. Install the secondary brake shoe.
  Connect the parking brake cable retaining spring to the brake shoe lever, making sure the spring is not twisted.
  Install the hold-down spring and retaining pin.

. Install the primary brake shoe.
  Install the spreader plate and the spring.
  Install the return spring.
  Install the hold-down spring and retaining pin.

. Install the return spring.

. Install the brake shoe adjuster.

. Using the special tools, install the drive flange.



. Install the wheel knuckle.
